~Beginning~
A lonely soul sat waiting, for a time which seemed so long.
In a world that had no color, in a world devoid of song.
Then lonely turned to sadness, and grayness turned to black.
The hope that poor soul clung to, unnoticed began to crack.
Into those fractures, wide now, despair began to seep
The empty soul began to fill, the sadness ran so deep.
Then time no longer mattered, and pain no longer stung,
Thoughts became a torment from which the sad soul hung.
~Then~
Into that timeless time alone, into that blackness rung
Far to the south unnoticed, a single note was sung.
The sound’s timbre seemed so soft then, all those years ago
But its resonance persisted and the soul soon came to know
That darkness could be driven back, that grayness could recede
That a kindred soul alive with song could fill one’s every need.
~Now~
A lonely soul no longer. For the world now floods with light
And colors flush with vibrancy. Inviting, warm and bright.
The darkness long departed, the grayness scarcely seen
Her song fills every day with hope and every night with dream.
Pain, when felt, stings sharply. That’s what it means to live
And hope again has surfaced, for it was hers to give.
The great regret is time now, once valueless when lost
Is now a precious shining jewel that none could set a cost.
That lovely song is still so close, though the soul it knows not why
When there are many brighter fields to which that sound might fly
But I’ll not question fortune, though the going may be rough
For if we had forever, together, it wouldn’t be enough.
