If I could live throughout all time
I’d watch the oceans rise and fall
And countless moments could be mine
To walk the world, and touch it all
So sure I’d be that I would stay
I’d never fear the things to come
As each new moment passed away
I’d know the race had just begun
Fear would never grip me
Of doubt there would be none
There’d always be another day
To do the thing that must be done
But time grants no such privilege
With her weight she crushes all
And leaves us naught but crumbling dust
Like leaves we all will fall
And once your hour upon the stage
Has past and you have lost
The moments that life gave to you
Will you wonder at the cost?
What would you pay to have them back?
To touch again that day
When in your youth the dreams you dreamed
Were but a fleeting step away
I wonder if I’d do different
Or still be just be the same
Nothing stops me even now
From playing in that game
But I suppose I’m who I am
A wanderer and I’m lost
If only I were infinite
I’d need not fear the cost.
